1. Department Structure

The Department of Physical Education comprises four divisions: the Physical Education Teaching and Research Office, the Group Competition Center, the Physical Fitness Testing Center, and the Sports Venue Management Center.

2. Faculty Profile

The Department of Physical Education currently has 23 faculty and staff members, including 19 full-time instructors. Among them, there are 3 associate professors, 14 lecturers, and 14 instructors holding master’s degrees; 73.7% of the faculty hold master’s degrees or above. Among the full-time faculty, there are 4 National1st-level Social Instructors, 2 National 1st-levelAthletes, 4 National 2nd-level Athletes, and 6 1st-level Referees.

3. Highlights

The Department of Physical Education is responsible for teaching the university’s physical education classes, conducting physical fitness tests, organizing on- and off-campus competitions, and training athletic teams throughout the university. It also provides students with a rich array of sports activities through two major platforms: Sports Clubs and University Athletic Teams.

The department’s curriculum development is distinguished by its unique characteristics. The case study titled “Chinese Archery Course,” submitted by Hong Kui, stood out among entries from universities and municipalities across the province and was successfully selected as an “Outstanding Case Study for the Promotion of Distinctive Traditional Ethnic Sports and Intangible Cultural Heritage Sports Projects” by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. This course has been featured multiple times on platforms such as “Xuexi Qiangguo” and the “Yangcheng Evening News,” highlighting the Department of Physical Education’s exemplary and leading role in teaching innovation and the preservation of traditional culture.

Research capabilities have steadily improved. At the 12th Guangdong Provincial University Games Scientific Paper Symposium, Hong Kui’s paper won first prize out of 1,856 submissions (first prizes accounted for only 4.7% of the total); a paper co-authored by Lin Guancheng and others received third prize at the 11th Guangdong Provincial University Games Scientific Paper Symposium.

Student competition results have been outstanding. In 2025, the Sports Dance Team placed seventh in the team total score at the Provincial University Sports Dance Championship; the Martial Arts Team secured 3 first-place and 3 second-place finishes at the Provincial Southern Fist and Tai Chi Elite Competition, achieving its best results in history. In 2024, the Table Tennis Team placed third in the men’s doubles category at the Provincial University Table Tennis Championship. In 2023, the men’s basketball team won the runner-up title at the Zhongluotan Town “Trade Union Cup”; the Sports Dance Team placed second in the women’s solo Scategory at the Provincial University Championship.

II. Courses

Department of Physical Education offers one physical education course persemester (Semesters 1–4) for students across all majors. Students may select specific course content based on their individual needs. The physical education courses offered include golf, soccer, archery, martial arts, outdoor adventure, volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, basketball, pickleball, physical fitness, yoga, comprehensive fitness, aerobics, cheerleading, sports dance, ultimate frisbee, and shuttlecock.
